SWACH awarded HRSA funding to strengthen overdose response efforts in Klickitat and Skamania counties

Southwest Washington Accountable Community of Health (SWACH) is honored to have been awarded new federal funding through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) to expand local overdose prevention, harm reduction, and recovery support efforts across Klickitat and Skamania counties.

The grant will help increase the availability of life-saving resources, strengthen care coordination, and deepen community partnerships in the region.

Expanding access and awareness

Through the HRSA-funded project, SWACH will:

  • Increase naloxone and fentanyl test strip availability through its regional vending machine network.

  • Expand wraparound care coordination through the HealthConnect Hub, connecting individuals and families to community health workers (CHWs) for social and behavioral health support.

  • Develop and maintain a Community Asset Map to identify and elevate existing rural resource.

These activities align with HRSA’s goal to “establish and expand substance use disorder (SUD) prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery services” in rural service areas.

Grounded in community partnership

SWACH will continue working alongside partners in Klickitat and Skamania counties, including local health departments, harm reduction organizations, and rural clinics, to expand access to services and address barriers such as transportation, stigma, and limited provider availability.

SWACH’s naloxone vending machines alone distributed more than 2,400 kits across the two rural counties between 2023 and 2025 — a proven model the organization will continue to build on with this new funding.
