Exploring a CIE for Washington State
The Health Care Authority (HCA) received $2 million in funding through a budget proviso to further explore how Community Information Exchange (CIE) can benefit health transformation. Beginning in August, the HCA is reaching out to Community Based Organizations, health systems, community lead groups and other partners to explore how CIE impacts various stakeholders. SWACH is working with HCA to help share ongoing planning information with our regional partners.
A Community Information Exchange (CIE) is a network for sharing social determinants of health information between a diverse group of partners, including governments and tribes, healthcare providers, and community organizations. The goal is to enable services promoting health and well-being for individuals and communities through a solution that connects existing platforms and vendors.
CIE is aligned with HCA’s Medicaid Transformation Project renewal and may help support technology and resource referral for community hubs, including SWACH’s HealthConnect Hub. While HCA is still exploring all possibilities, CIE may also provide a technology platform to address growing needs for services supporting communities and individuals requiring food assistance, job assistance, housing, transportation, and other social supports.
Next Steps
As part of the planning process, the HCA is soliciting feedback and providing more details about the project before submitting a report to the Legislature. This process includes a survey and two information webinars.
The following survey (linked) is for members of your organization to provide their input and comments on this important topic. Please complete no later than end of day, August 11 to ensure your comments are fully capture for the report.
