Funding Available: Klickitat County Opioid Settlement Funds RFP

On Oct. 6, Southwest Washington Accountable Community of Health (SWACH), in partnership with Klickitat County, announced the official release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for opioid abatement settlement funding. A total of $288,655 is available for organizations serving Klickitat County to expand treatment, prevention, recovery, and harm reduction strategies in response to the opioid crisis.

The funding comes from Washington State’s opioid settlements with pharmaceutical companies and distributors. Klickitat County’s allocation is overseen by the Opioid Abatement Council (OAC), which ensures funds are directed to evidence-based solutions that improve health outcomes for residents.

“Opioid Funds are a way for communities to reduce the harms caused by the opioid crisis. Funding for Opioid Funds comes from settlements reached through lawsuits against opioid companies that contributed to the opioid crisis, and flow from Washington State to eligible cities and counties,” said Ashley Gaffney, Community Health Improvement Director at SWACH. “This funding gives local communities the opportunity to plan how they will work towards reducing opioid-related harms unique to their community (through prevention, treatment, and other strategies) and can help save lives. “

Funding Priorities

Organizations may apply for projects that align with approved opioid settlement strategies, including:

• Expanding access to treatment services for substance use disorder
• Prevention efforts targeting youth, families, and at-risk populations
• Harm reduction strategies that save lives and reduce stigma
• Recovery support programs to sustain long-term wellness
• Other initiatives that reduce the burden of the opioid epidemic
